Thunderbird
Problems when sending mail in copying mail to Sent folder
- Mozilla bug 218625 'TBird hangs sending mail to IMAP sent-mail'
- Mozilla bug 206408 (comment #110 talks about a TCP timeout detection, comment #23 talks about the Max connections setting as does comment #112
Can't access mailboxes because timed out - should the IMAP concurrent connection number be increased?
- "Tools -> Account Settings -> Server Settings -> Advanced -> IMAP -> Maximum number of server connections to cache" defaults to 5. Courier IMAP servers default to 4 connections per TCP-IP address. This mismatch can cause apparent hangs, data loss, and messages to be downloaded instead of just headers. If you have one Courier account you need to lower the Thunderbird setting to 4 or less. If you have two Courier accounts you need to lower the setting in each account to 2 since it's 4 connections per TCP-IP address, not per account. If you don't know whether you have a Courier IMAP server it doesn't hurt anything to lower the values." - http://kb.mozillazine.org/IMAP:_advanced_account_configuration.
- Mozilla bug 172865 'Cached connections message is misleading', comment #4 makes a link between the issue where Thunderbird hangs copying to Sent and the max connections issue.
- Mozilla bug 230055
'IMAP connections don't get freed / no error message when unable to connect to IMAP'
(perhaps this is a duplicate of bug 172865).
This talks about increasing Courier's default instead of Thunderbird's, but our Courier's
(/etc/courier/imapd) has MAXPERIP set to 20.
When is a connection used? is it per account? If we have to balance connections across accounts so they don;t exceed a given number per IP address, how do we do that as adinistrators when users could have any number of accounts?
Possible fixes:
- Click on offline/online
- Set Thunderbird's max concurrent connections to 1
In the profile directory is a file for doing phishing protection. It's 8MB large so will slow down logging on/off
IMAP headers in the user profile can be numerous if the user has a lot of mail, so could affect logon/off time
OpenOffice
Openoffice is saving to the per-machine dictionary rather than per-user
OpenOffice backup location needs to be somewhere the user is allowed to write to
WPKG Packaging issues
If we don't have uninstallers for Enigmail and Thunderbird dictionaries, when Thunderbird is removed and these packages' settings aren't removed from the WPKG.xml file, are we ok?
CREATE GDI+ SECTION; CHANGE GDI+.BAT BACK TO COPYING TO SCRIBUS PROGRAM DIRECTORY
OpenOffice uninstaller doesn't remove the user's Startup shortcut
Picasa uninstaller says "Would you like to remove the Picasa database? If you are reinstalling click 'No'.". I chose No and it had a dialog saying: "ExitAsk failed - Error opening uninstall page (0)". Though this may not definately have come from Picasa.
Eraser wants a reboot before its removal is done - so the uninstaller fails cos eraser.exe remains
Adobe Reader says it needs a reboot, do now or later (and exit code 3010)
Thunderbird's registry exists check fails on this: "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Mozilla Thundebird", and this: "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Mozilla", but not this: "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\"
Both registry keys 'Mozilla' and 'Mozilla Thunderbird' exist
If we have reboot=true there's a reboot after the package is installed. It would be better to save the reboot till the end. "No reboot was necessary. All updates are complete." implies that it works this way. WPKG needs rebootnow and rebootlater commands
JRE MSI - this might be useful - (TWEAK should remove these): %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\{3248F0A6-6813-11D6-A77B-00B0D0150060}, J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6.msi, 1033.MST
JRE MSI - this might be useful - (TWEAK should remove these): %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Sun\Java\jre1.5.0_08, jre1.5.0_08.msi

Nero BurnRights exit code 10005 once

Filezilla says: 'delete all registry keys created by FileZilla...'
WinSCP and PuTTY prompt with questions about what you want to clean up - this may be OK
Scribus uninstaller requires 'OK' pressing after completion. use /HD?? switch to find what installer was built with cos this may be Scribus' fault rather than NSIS'
If Nero BurnRights isn't installed and you remove it it says "nero burnrights not detected on your computer" and wants you to press 'OK', despite using /silent. (we may not be getting the required reboot after Nero BurnRights, so we get popup when trying to install it, not always tho). (something is rebooting and so we don't get everything removed)
Picasa - "Would you like to remove the Picasa database? If you are reinstalling click 'No'." - which may be a valid question to ask
Picasa - loads web browser to ask why we're uninstalling
